| History: |
The first race club at Aramac was formed in 1877 and was known as the Mitchell District Grass Fed Racing Club, apparently named after the explorer Sir Thomas Mitchell about 1855. The name of the club was changed to the Aramac Racing Club. Interestingly, committee member B. D. Morehead, went on to become Premier of Queensland. Aramac had the only hurdle race in Queensland – one and a half miles or 2400 metres for grass fed horses. Surely another first for Aramac must be that in the early 1920s, four races in Aramac were run in an anti-clockwise direction. The reason for this was that the stewards decided that portions of the track were too wet to race on. |
