MEDIA RELEASE
Cushion Track delayed
Following a routine inspection of the Sunshine Coast Cushion Track by Blacklaw Civil Contractors and Queensland Racing Limited (QRL) representatives, a section of drainage layer rock located between the 380m until after the winning post has been defaulted.
QRL chairman Mr Bob Bentley said due to the presence of a large quantity of foreign material within the drainage layer rock, the rock will need to be removed and new rock installed.
“This is an unfortunate setback, however, QRL will not allow deadlines to dictate the standard of construction. We would rather delay the development to ensure the standard of construction is at the highest level,” Mr Bentley said.
“This again demonstrates the high standards required by QRL and their contractors in the construction of the Cushion Track.”
Mr Bentley said given the time delay, QRL has taken the stance to cancel the first set of trials that was set for February 28, however, the following trials program will remain in place:
- Thursday, March 13
- Thursday, March 27
