STEWARDS REPORT
DEAGON OFFICES – MARCH 3, 2010
Stewards today concluded an inquiry with licensed stablehand Mr Daniel Williams into the results of the analyst’s findings of a urine sample taken from him at the Mid North Coast Racing Association offices in Port Macquarie NSW on Monday, January 11, 2010.
At the initial inquiry on Monday, February 22, 2010, it was established that on the morning of January 11 Mr Williams, when riding trackwork at the Gold Coast, was requested by QRL stewards to provide a urine sample. He failed to provide this sample and when contacted explained that due to unforseen personal reasons he had decided to return to Sydney immediately. Mr Williams however did provide a urine sample to Racing NSW stewards at Port Macquarie the afternoon of Monday, January 11 which upon analysis revealed the presence of a banned substance, namely benzoylecgonine a metabolite of cocaine.
Mr Williams subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under AR.81A(1)(a) and made submissions to have the matter adjourned to allow him to provide written references from his current employer Mr Anthony Cummings and previous employers in the racing industry. This request was allowed by stewards.
After considering all of the evidence and the special circumstances of this particular case, Daniel Williams had his licence suspended for a period of six months to commence at midnight January 11, 2010, at which time he was stood down from riding trackwork, and to conclude at midnight July 11, 2010.
Mr Williams was further advised that pursuant to AR.81A(4) he must deliver a sample free of any banned substance prior to riding trackwork again.
