Queensland’s leading racehorse trainer, Bruce McLachlan, dies early this morning
The chairman of Queensland Racing Limited (QRL), Mr Bob Bentley today acknowledged the passing of leading Queensland racehorse trainer, Bruce McLachlan, who died early this morning.
Mr Bentley acknowledged Bruce’s contribution to racing in Queensland as a licensed trainer for 40 years. “Bruce not only influenced racing here in Queensland, but had a significant impact in other states of Australia. He was a man that was larger than life and in 2003 was inducted into the inaugural Queensland Hall of Fame,” said Mr Bentley.
“Bruce has trained many outstanding gallopers over the years including horses such as St. Jude, With Me, Planet Ruler, Al Mansour, Sublimate and Chortle to name but a few.
“Notwithstanding that Bruce has been at the fore in the training ranks over the years having won over 15 trainer’s premierships, it has been his most recent successes that gave him great pleasure, as he was able to make a further mark on Australian racing in partnership with his son, Jason.
“Last year Bruce established a partnership with his son, Jason, and immediately had success with the dashing colt, Phelan Ready, which was successful in this year’s Magic Millions Classic and the Sydney Turf Club’s Golden Slipper Stakes. Notwithstanding that Bruce has had outstanding success over the years, he continued to enjoy wins in the best two-year-old races in Australia this season.
“No doubt, Bruce will be sadly missed as a member of the Queensland racing industry. Queensland has lost a true icon of the industry.”
Ends.
