A change in racing tactics has worked a treat for the Toowoomba-trained runner Myndos who clocked up another win in Brisbane at the weekend.
The winning result was evidence that trainer Tony Gollan’s tactics are working for Myndos (H6 Danzero-Smytzer’s Century) who has begun his latest campaign in great form. Of his last three starts, Myndos has won twice and beaten by a whisker for second, officially a long neck, for the trainer.
“He’s a changed horse. We’ve changed his riding tactics a little bit and he’s getting ridden a little quieter now and it seems to have rejuvenated him,” Gollan said.
“He’s always had ability and has probably been unlucky to not have won the last three in a row.
“We just let him come out of the barriers and let him be where he wants to be and not riding him aggressive out of the jump and let him find the line. The horse is appreciating the change in tactics.”

A winning smile…Lacey Morrison dismounts off Myndos after a winning ride

Warwick over the Australia Day weekend where he blitzed the field with a two and three quarter length winning margin and a new track record of 1.09.44 for the 1200m journey.
The recent win at City Pacific Doomben in the BMD Group Handicap 1350m saw Myndos jump and sit near last until the turn where jockey Lacey Morrison found some luck along the inside.
Morrison weaved through to field to hold out King of Soul (Scott Seamer), who was also finishing fast after trailing the field, by a half neck. Race-favourite Mr Hornblower (Brad Pengelly) ran home for third a further half neck behind.
Gollan was certain Lacey’s ride won him the race. “It was a terrific ride. No doubt the ride won the race.”
“It’s a good win because my mum owns half the horse. It’s always good when you win one for the family.”
The trainer will continue to target the Brisbane prizemoney and hopes to send Myndos around in Toowoomba’s Listed Weetwood Handicap 1300m.
“We’ll just keep poking along with him in some handicap races in Brisbane up to around the 1400m, we may go up to the mile with him.
“Long term, if all being well with the horse, he’ll go into the Weetwood in Toowoomba in April,” he said.
