For the second time this season Glen Colless has ridden half the card at City Pacific Doomben.
One of Queensland’s most followed and respected jockeys, Colless secured his second quadruple for the season on Saturday, November 1 taking out wins on Red Sphere, Hard to Catch, Fangles and Regal Gaze.
Colless’ first win came aboard Red Sphere (G7 Racer’s Edge-Panorama Red) who was returning to the track after a spell to claim the Queensland Civil Contractors Handicap 1200m.
“He just had the right run. He’s an awkward fella but he hits the line alright,” Colless said of the one and a half length win over Chabeli (Ric McMahon).
The second win for the day came aboard Pat Duff’s gelding Hard to Catch (G7 Dodge-Mrs Bligh) who found himself back in the winner’s box following several misses in recent starts.
It was the first time Colless had partnered the stakes winner and found the winning formula to produce a win in the Big Dog Racing Supplements Handicap 1615m over Showify (Tony Pattillo) by three quarters of a length.
“He was the class horse in the race and if he came back to his old form I knew he was a few lengths better than them,” Colless said.
Colless was again back in the winning box after guiding Fangles (G4 Falvelon-Speranto) to an all-the-way win in the AAED Electrical Accessories Handicap 1350m over Rockem (Ron Goltz) by one and a half lengths.
“I thought he would dictate and find the lead,” he said, a trait that Falvelon’s progeny showed on the day. Earlier, Doonbah Star (C3 Falvelon-Star Tumble) and Powerful Light (F2 Falvelon-Purbright) picked up wins dominating their races.

Colless’ fourth win for the day came aboard Regal Gaze (G5 Intergaze-Trestres Tracy Ann) who has been knocking on the winner’s door for the last four starts.
The gelding had the field covered by the turn and cruised to a two and a quarter length win over Grand Corso (Ric McMahon) in the Doug Allen Memorial QTIS Plate 2020m.
Colless secured the fourth win with ease on the $2.45 favourite and also took home two seconds to make it a superb day at the office.
“You’ve just got to take every winner as they come,” he said.
