Joint meeting of metropolitan clubs
The Chairman of Queensland Racing Limited (QRL), Mr Bob Bentley, today facilitated a meeting between representatives of the Brisbane Turf Club (BTC) and the Queensland Turf Club (QTC).
“The purpose of the meeting was to bring both clubs together to discuss a way forward regarding the integrated development of metropolitan racing facilities in Brisbane,” Mr Bentley said.
“The meeting was conducted in the right spirit, with representatives from both clubs actively contributing to the discussion.”
Arguably, the most important outcome of the meeting was that the representatives of both clubs flagged their intention to work together to ensure that resources are not wasted in relation to the development of facilities in Brisbane.
Chairman of the QTC, Mr Bill Sexton, added that, “It is heartening to have such a positive discussion in relation to a properly integrated development.”
The newly elected Chairman of the BTC, Mr Wayne Milner, commented that, “It was critical that both clubs were capable of working together to achieve common goals in relation to overall Master Planning.”
During the discussion, Mr Bentley confirmed QRL’s policy position of one club with two tracks.
In acknowledging that another merger vote may be some time off, all parties in attendance agreed that the best outcomes will be achieved through cooperative planning of the Doomben and Eagle Farm tracks.
The group agreed that it would meet again in the very near future to identify a framework that will facilitate progress in relation to the future development of the metropolitan racing precinct.
