Jockeys fail to renew their licenses by 1st June deadline
Trainers renewals due 19th June
Warning to Jockeys:
- No jockey will be permitted to ride after 30 June without lodging a new medical form.
- No jockey with an expired 2008-09 licence will be permitted to ride on 1 July and will be disciplined.
- All jockeys who missed the 1st June due date will pay an extra $100
- Any jockey who fails to renew their license will be subject to a late fee in addition to the $100 already incurred.
More than 60% of Queensland jockeys have cost themselves an extra $100 in licence fees by missing the 1st June renewal deadline for jockey licenses. License fees are $281 if completed by 1st June and $381 if completed after.
Renewal forms were sent on 24 April giving 5 weeks to return them.
Trainers who employ apprentices also have an obligation to ensure their apprentices renew their licences on time. Only 35% of apprentices renewed by 1st June and the rest will also pay an extra $100.
While the licence period itself expires on 30 June, renewal deadlines are required prior to this to allow QRL to complete processing. Since there are approximately 5000 licensees across all categories, a range of due dates is necessary to allow time for all licensees to be renewed on time and new season cards sent out.
Many renewal forms are incorrectly completed, necessitating time consuming follow up and adding to the administrative workload of the Licensing Department. Jockey renewal forms are as simple as possible.
All that is required is to tick a box, fill in credit card payment details and insurer and sign the form. This should take about 10 minutes for most people.
The form can be faxed, emailed, posted or delivered to a QRL office. The additional requirement is for the completion of the annual medical form with a GP. A little planning should ensure this gets done in time to return with the form by the due date.
Licensing department staff are now processing renewals for trainers, stablehands and trackriders. Therefore jockeys who submit their renewal forms close to the 30 June cannot be guaranteed of being renewed by that date and will be subject to disciplinary action for failing to renew their licenses by the due date.
Trainers renewals due 19th June
Trainers’ license renewals are due on the 19th June therefore all trainers who miss that due date are subject to late fees under Rule LR 92.
- Trainers who allow their licenses to expire will not be able to nominate or train.
- Trainers must submit trackrider medicals for their staff with the renewal or their staff will not be renewed.
- All licenses and medicals for trackriders expire on 31 July and trackriders may not ride after that date without a new medical.
- Trainers who ride their own trackwork must indicate YES on their renewal and submit a medical.
- Trainers authorised to ride trackwork will have the word “Trackwork” printed on their licence.
- Therefore those who indicate no or do not submit a medical will not be permitted to ride trackwork. Stewards and track managers will be guided by the licence card.
