Change of scenery the trick

It’s been a few runs between wins for Scenic Shot but a visit to the Gold Coast in early May turned the tables.
West Australian trainer Daniel Morton was thrilled with the horse’s first start in the Sunshine State which saw him pick up the Group 2 Patinack Farm A.D. Hollindale Stakes 1800m.
Scenic Shot (G5 Scenic IRE-Sweepshot) isn’t new to first class racing and last year ran second in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes 2000m at Flemington. But the Group 2 win at the Gold Coast was welcomed after spending 16 months out of the number one spot.
Ridden by Glen Colless, the gelding had to fight hard in the final 100 metres to secure the win against Spinney (Rodd Quinn) by a head. Stormhill (Matthew Palmer) ran home for third place a further one and a quarter of a length back.
“He did a good job because we flew him from Perth to Melbourne and then floated to Sydney and raced there which wasn’t the plan and then he had the road trip again, so he did a good job,” Morton said.

“It was an excellent win because they had it pretty easy up front Spinney and Stormhill and for him to get over the top of them third up over the 1800 I thought was a great effort.
“He’s a deserving horse. He’s raced at the highest level pretty much his whole racing career and he really does deserve a nice win.”
Colless was also happy with the result. “I had a nice run on the fence and just got out when I could,” Colless said. “I elected to come off the fence just prior to the corner and it sort of made the race for him. He really knuckled down in the last 100 yards, it was a great effort.”
The win secured a treble for Colless who earlier won the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet with Pentacity and the Listed Ken Russell Memorial Classic with Cat D’Antibes.
