QRL announces appointment of chief stipendiary steward
Queensland Racing Limited (QRL) chairman Mr Bob Bentley today announced the appointment of Mr Wade Birch as the chief stipendiary steward of Queensland.
“Mr Birch has been acting in the role for the last three months and this has given us the opportunity to assess his ability at the top operational level,” said Mr Bentley.
“The board of QRL has been very pleased with the way he has conducted himself in the role and we are very confident that he will go on to excel in this role”.
QRL’s director of integrity operations Mr Jamie Orchard agreed with Mr Bentley’s assessment. “I am delighted with Wade’s appointment and I am looking forward to continuing our close working relationship,” said Mr Orchard.
“The role of the stewards is critical in maintaining the integrity of thoroughbred racing in Queensland and to do that we need to focus on earning the respect of industry participants. With Wade’s experience, ability and approachable style, he is the perfect candidate to lead the stewards in developing that respect.”
Mr Birch said, “I am grateful to the board for having the faith in me to appoint me to this important role. With the support of the members of the stewards panel, I will be doing my best to ensure that Queensland has the highest possible standard of stewarding.”
