Serunai made it look all too easy when the gelding took out the Go for Gold QTIS 2YO Handicap 1000m at Eagle Farm on Saturday, April 5.
The $2.30 favourite got to the front fairly quickly and led all the way claiming victory ahead of late challenge Love Hit Me (Ken Pope) by a long head. A further length and a half behind in third was Saratoga (Dean Tanti).
Serunai (G2 Piccolo GB-Faris Jester) was ridden by Jason Holder and it was the jockey’s first win of three for the day.
Winning his maiden a fortnight earlier at the Sunshine Coast and placing third in his first start has earnt connections $79,500 in prizemoney including $29,000 in QTIS bonuses from his three starts.
Trainer Bruce McLachlan was happy with the run, “He’s a nice young horse and a smart young horse,” he said.
Getting to the front and staying there was part of the plan, “He’s got plenty of speed and he used his speed. You’ve got to chase him and he’s got a very high cruising speed.”
McLachlan was confident with the gelding’s ability, “I thought he had a great chance,” he said.
