La Bella Luisa won her Maiden race at Eagle Farm on Saturday, July 5 in the Lyndhurst Stud QTIS 2YO Handicap 1400m.
With six previous starts including a third and a second two weeks earlier, trainer John Wallace had high hopes for the filly heading into the race.
“I was pretty confident actually,” said Wallace.
“The other day at the Gold Coast she had to lead and ended up on the fence where you couldn’t win and only got beaten a head. The start before she was very unlucky in the Magic Millions race there because she was three or four or five wide and only got beaten I think a length and a half. So her form was alright.”
La Bella Luisa (F2 Clang-Jugawin) raced as the bottom weight at 53kg with Jason Holder in the saddle.
Racing from mid field they found a gap in the straight and flew home to catch up with the leaders.
“She was always travelling back in the field and coming to the home turn and I thought she’s going to be very hard to beat. It was a good win.”
The track was downgraded to slow for the race and Wallace knew she’d handle the wet track.
Wallace was also certain the step up in the distance helped La Bella Luisa win. So much so that he’s running her in a mile next. “I’ll be running her in a mile in two weeks and she’ll go good there.”
La Bella Luisa has earned $58,600 in prizemoney for connections including $23,100 in QTIS bonuses.
