Bryan Guy’s mare Eleda continued to impress recently when she picked up her sixth win for the stable in just eight starts since moving to the Gold Coast.
The former New Zealander has been on a dream run lately with her latest win at City Pacific Doomben on October 4 in the Zig Zag Foundation Handicap 1350m.
Eleda (M4 Deputy Governor-Repetition) secured the $64,000 winning cheque for connections after jockey Dean Tanti rode to plan.
“We drew barrier one and it was a bit further, 1350m, (than her last start) and I said to Dean we have to ride her a little more positively,” Guy said.
Eleda’s last win, two starts earlier, was a different story with Tanti forced to sit towards the back of the field before going wide to find the lead.
“The reason she has been ridden back in the past is because he jumped from bad alleys and he had to go back to get in,” Guy said.
It was a different story in the mare’s latest start with a run on the rails for the 1350m journey.
“Dean and I went over some tapes of her earlier wins and that’s why I said to him you can ride her positively,” Guy said.
“I said just ride her for luck and stick to the fence and he rode her exactly that way and everything fell into line.”
Belles Opinion (Christian Reith) ran home for second, three quarters of a length behind Eleda, after returning to the track from almost fourth months off while My First Affair (Scott Seamer) picked up another minor placing for trainer Maryann Thexton finishing a further three quarters of a length back in third place.
Eleda has had success coming from all sections of the track this preparation.
“He first up win this preparation at the Gold Coast she was virtually in the one, one,” Guy said.
“Her second win at Ipswich she was up there probably only two lengths from the lead so you can ride her that way. It’s just that she’s drawn ordinary alleys.”
Eleda has thrived since transferring to Queensland from New Zealand in late May with her prizemoney pool growing quickly and now totalling a nudge under $170,000.
