As the longest priced at $31, Seesawing defied these odds to win her first start, the Dr Clem Jones AO Memorial QTIS 2YO Handicap 1200m at Eagle Farm on Saturday, March 8.
Ridden by jockey Carl Spry, Seesawing (2F Easy Rocking-Playground) started from the back of the field and raced along the rails. In the home straight she flew up strong on the inside to claim the race a short neck ahead of Adnocon (Ken Pope). $3.70 race favourite Reve D’or (Shane Scriven) settled for third by half a length.
Trainer Kelly Schweida was happy with the win, “She was a little bit slow away but ended up getting into a good spot back about third last on the fence and was just looking for a way out and got the run on the fence at about the 200m mark – it was a good win.”
“She trialled really well on the Tuesday, about 10 days prior to that she run third in the trial. She had shoes on; the other two horses had plates on. She just missed the start that day and that’s a bit of a trait of hers so we were a bit worried. If she jumped we give her a good hope. The owner had something on her. It’s just that, first start it’s a fair task in amongst those horses that have won races but she trialled really good when she trialled.
“It was good you know $50,000 prizemoney and paid $60 so the owners even happier than I am,” said Schweida.
From this successful first start, Seesawing collected $53,000 in prizemoney for connections including owner Kevin Dixon. This included $21,000 in the QTIS bonus.
“She went though one of the Magic Millions sales. Kevin Dixon owned the half sister, Playground Express, so that’s why he bought her.”
“If she gets a run, she’ll run the Magic Million in a fortnight. Just whether she gets the run or not, she’s on $32,000, so she’s about equal 19th at the moment,” said Schweida.
