A filly named Brujita made a significant contribution to her prizemoney pool when she took out the Albert & Logan News QTIS 2YO Handicap 1030m at City Pacific Doomben on Saturday, November 8.
Brujita (F2 Danehill Dancer IRE-Subtle Difference NZ) had her first up run in the Fitton Insurance Hopeful 2YO Plate 1003m at Toowoomba on September 27 where she ran third.
At the Doomben Fun and Fillies raceday, again with Phillip Wolfgram in the saddle, she got straight to the front from the jump but Fairchild (Glen Colless) bolted across the field to claim the leading spot.
But Brujita kept on her heels and in the straight passed around the outside to take the win a length and a half in front of Fairchild.
Bella Sirena (Sean Cormack), the $2.50 race favourite, followed in third by a length and a quarter.
The latest win of $53,000 brings Brujita’s earnings to $60,500 including $21,000 in QTIS bonuses for owners Kevin and Tanith O’Brien.
“We’ve always had a good opinion of her,” said Wolfgram of the Ron Maund-trained filly.
“That’s why she started in the Fitton and today (November 8) was to get a bit more prizemoney heading towards the Magic Millions.”
