She might be small in statue but Black Minx makes up for it in heart. Fresh from a win in Rockhampton, Black Minx added another Black Type title to her name winning the Listed Ambassador Travel Sir Douglas Wadley 1200m at Eagle Farm on June 7.
Black Minx (F2 Lonhro-Faith Hill) has now won five of her six starts for trainer Mark Webb who set the filly for the race after missing out on a start in the Golden Slipper earlier in the year.
“If we hadn’t gone for the Slipper we would gone for the Sires and races like that,” Webb said.
“But we thought we would go for the Slipper and we missed out so we had to go back to Plan B. Fortunately the Rockhampton race just fell nicely for us.”
She entered the Sir Douglas Wadley after winning fresh from a spell in the Magic Millions Rockhampton on May 27.
Ridden by Jim Byrne, the filly had the field well covered on the post finishing one and a quarter of a length ahead of Daddys Little Girl (Ric McMahon). Calm Before (Shane Scriven) finished in third place a further short neck behind.
Byrne had the filly positioned on the rails one off the leader before moving off to the middle of the track in the straight, hitting the front 50m from the post.
But the jockey admitted she struggled through the slow track. “She never handled the going at all,” he said.
Webb will now send the filly out for a spell and will look at the Spring for her next preparation.
“She’s a bloody good filly. Anything that wins five out of six on all sorts of different tracks you can’t really knock,” Webb said.
“She’s lovely; you wouldn’t believe the amount of people who come to the track to come to see her.
“The biggest part of her is her heart. She’s just a pleasure to have.”
