In form gelding Borsha’s Mark showed why he was the race favourite in the Seppelt Wines QTIS 3YO Handicap 1200m at Eagle Farm on Saturday, February 16.
Fast away from barrier one, Borsha’s Mark (G3 Falvelon-Elite Warrior) settled into third but as soon as he got clear to the outside at the 200m he shot away into the straight for a clear lead of one and three quarter lengths ahead of Conquering Spirit (Scott Seamer). Regal Castanea (Scott Galloway) was for third by a long head in the 16-horse field.
Trainer Les Kelly thought his run was good. “We anticipated that to win the race we’d have to get out about five or six horses off the fence and that worked out fine.”
Stepping up to the 1200m, Kelly didn’t think there’d be any problems with the distance. “He looked to be really travelling well a long way from home.”
All three of the gelding’s consecutive wins have come with Daniel Griffin in the saddle. “They go well together so we’re quite happy to stick with him while we’re still winning,” said Kelly.
“There’s another race in two weeks time at Eagle Farm over 1200m, I think it’s a Quality Plate, $100,000 race. That’s what we’re looking to next.”
“He was bred at Glenlogan Park by the owners, Bill Mansour and George Armstrong, and I’ve had him since he was a yearling and one of my other owners (Santo Varapodio) who owns Black Ink, he bought a third share of him just before he started racing.”
Borsha’s Mark has earned $119,250 in prizemoney for connections including $47,600 in QTIS bonuses.
