It seems that Winter Carnival is the optimal time of the year for Court who won the Group 3 Lyndhurst Stud BTC Classic 1350m at Doomben on Saturday, May 16 almost one year to the day after winning the Group 2 Champagne Stakes.
Despite jumping from barrier 16 and racing at the back of the pack, the Clarry Conners-trained Court (F3 Anabaa USA-Splish) displayed great acceleration to fly down the outside to get to the winning post first.
Leapfrog (Glen Boss) came second by three quarters of a length, with Geeza (Michael Rodd) pipped by a nose coming in third.
An emotional Clarry Conners was thrilled with jockey Damien Oliver and Court.
“What she does is pretty outstanding,” Conners said.
“The great advantage today was that Damien had ridden her at the Gold Coast. He knows what she’s like. She’s a pretty special filly you know.”
Damien Oliver felt the race went to plan as riding further back suited Court’s racing style.
“She keeps drawing bad, so hence we have to go a little bit further back,” he said.
“She’s got some great acceleration so when I asked her to go she really went quick.”
Oliver mused over the best next race for Court in the Winter Carnival.
“She wouldn’t be out in a race like that (the Stradbroke), probably the mares race would suit her even better and would suit me too,” he said.
Trainer Conners confirmed Court will race in the Stradbroke.
“She’s in the Stradbroke,” he said. “I live in Hope Street and we all live in hope (of a victory)!”
From 12 starts, Court’s record stands at four wins, two seconds and two thirds. She has amassed $417,650 in prizemoney.
