STEWARDS REPORT
DEAGON OFFICES – TUESDAY 19 JANUARY 2010
Stewards today finalised their investigation into the brands of the horse Lucky Songs. That horse, prior to participating at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Saturday 16 January 2010, was found by Stewards to have a brand on its off side inconsistent with the horse’s registered brands.
Stewards had identified the fact that the horse was branded with “RF” on the near side shoulder and 11 over 6 on the off side shoulder whereas the horse’s identification document (based on the entry in the Australian stud book) showed a branding of “RF” on the near side shoulder and 71 over 6 on the off side shoulder.
Having correctly identified the horse by reference to the microchip number of the horse and by its markings, Stewards allowed the horse to participate in its race and subsequently investigated the reason for the discrepancy.
The subsequent investigation revealed that:
- the initial Identification Certificate for the horse (from New Zealand) recorded the brand of 11 over 6 on its off side;
- when the horse was registered in the New Zealand Stud Book it was recorded with the brand of 11 over 6 on its offside;
- no horse has been branded by the breeder with “RF” on the near side and 71 over 6 on the off side;
- the Australian Microchip, Brands and Sample form records the horse as having 11 over 6 on its offside; and
- the registration in the Australian Stud Book (and therefore the identification document) records the brand on the off side as being 71 over 6.
On the basis of this investigation and after consulting the Australian Stud Book, Stewards are satisfied that the discrepancy between the identification document and the brand arose when the details of the horse were recorded in the Australian Stud Book. The entry in the Australian Stud Book is now being corrected and a new identification document will be issued with the correct brands showing.
