Jenkinson dominates Beef and Coal Series scoreboard

Trainer Allan Jenkinson has proved unbeatable at the end of the he Beef and Coal series which ran over nine meetings.
The opening raceday was at Bluff/Blackwater on February 28 and the series concluded on May 16 at Clermont and through that time the Yeppoon-based Jenkinson amassed 58 points to win the $3000 trainer bonus for the series.
His closest competitor was Michael Hicks who finished on 23 points.
Allan Jenksinon was pleased with his personal win but was more pleased with the effect the series has on country racedays.
“I think it’s a very good thing for country racing, the series, because it does get us out and get some better quality horses out into the country,” he said.
“And it does make racing, because if we’re going out there for a series race, we often take another horse out for a race also, so it does help to support the meetings.”
Four-year-old gelding Loose Unit, who is trained by Jenkinson, was top of the table for the horse points on 22 points, just edging out the Michael Hicks-trained Snagapot who had 21 points. Loose Unit had wins in Springsure and Monto and his overall points win delivers a $5000 bonus to his owners.
“It was just a skinny win for the horse,” Jenkinson joked. “I had three of the top four in Loose Unit, Birdello and Strong Tempo.”
The jockey category was also well contested with Adrian Coome coming away victorious on 25 points to snare the $2000 bonus. Coome proved highly consistent throughout the series, winning at Thangool in March and placing at Springsure, Gladstone, and Clermont.
Throughout the Beef and Coal series eight points are awarded to race wins, second received 5 points and third place received 3 points. One point is awarded to all participants.
Despite his excellent result, Jenkinson said there will be no celebrating.
“I’m not into that,” he said. “I’ve got too much work to do!”
