Queensland Racing applauded for support of two-year-old racing in North Queensland
The Townsville Turf Club has applauded the decision by Queensland Racing to split the Two-Year-Old QTIS Maiden race for it’s meeting on Thursday, April 23, 2009.
The race attracted terrific and improved nominations as trainers ramp up their preparations, aimed specifically towards the $100,000 Parry Nissan Great Northern Two-Year-old Classic, on Monday, June 8.
Townsville Turf Club CEO, Michael Charge said the decision by Queensland Racing has afforded trainers in North Queensland the opportunity to obtain a vital lead up run to our feature two-year-old race in June.
“Queensland Racing should be applauded for taking this approach, after a long and difficult wet season in North Queensland, which has caused major interruptions and setbacks for the industry and specifically impacted on vital preparations for two-year-old horses,” Charge said.
The decision by Queensland Racing clearly highlights the significant steps that it has taken to enhance and foster two-year-old racing. Along with the tremendous results out of the QTIS 600 Sales initiative, two-year-old racing is on the verge of a significant revival in North Queensland, and Queensland Racing has been instrumental in helping achieve this.
