Soiled caps off a successful raid on Brisbane with a win in the Centenary Classic Mile
|
Patinack Farm continued their run of success in the Winter Carnival with Soiled flying home to win the Listed Centenary Classic Mile 1600m on Saturday, June 20 at Eagle Farm.
Trainer Jason Coyle confirmed the positive feelings in the Patinack camp. “They’re doing great…so can we extend the carnival a bit longer?” he quipped.
Jockey Peter Robl had Soiled (G6 Sandpit BRZ-Subtle Miss) positioned well from the start to trail pacesetters Rags to Riches (Glen Colless) and Barlinnie (Scott Galloway).
Robl made his presence felt with 250 metres to travel and bolted home for a strong Black Type win, with Barlinnie providing the only fleeting resistance.
Coyle was extremely happy with the run. “It was spot on…11 (barrier) was perfect for him,” he said. “He loves just being outside things and hates getting in amongst it.”
The lightly raced six-year-old has only 22 starts to his name, but an impressive eight wins which includes two from three races in Brisbane this winter for the Sydney horse.
The winning tally may increase with maturity according to Robl. “He’s been pretty lightly raced,” he said. “He’s been well managed and since Jason’s (Coyle) got him he’s done a good job with him.
“It was my intention to probably lead on the horse, but they went a bit too quick for us so we were happy to come back and take the sit.
“He’s probably struggled at the mile (in the past), but the more mature he’s getting the better he’s getting at that,” Robl said. “As he proved today he ran a strong mile…that’s one more ammo in his arsenal.”
Barlinnie (NZ) finished one and a quarter lengths behind in second and Dorabella (NZ Damien Oliver) put his nose in front of the pack to claim a one and three quarter lengths third.
Robl would have been the toast of Soiled’s connections after returning them a third in the Group 1 Winter Stakes on Subtle Cove in the race prior.
Coyle will look to return Soiled to Sydney after a successful Brisbane campaign.
