Looking at the crack field of three-year-olds Falvelina lined up against and the manner in which she disposed of them was certainly a highlight at Eagle Farm on Saturday, January 23.
The filly, by Falvelon out of Domina, gave her opposition a lesson in acceleration as she shattered their hopes with 150 metres to travel in the Events @ BRC QTIS 3YO Handicap.
To further emphasise the Tony Gollan-trained three-year-old’s performance was the class record time of 56.3 seconds over the 1000 metre trip, three tenths outside the overall track record.
“She has always shown me in work that she can run sectionals, and in barrier trials and on a dry track,” Gollan said. “The sectionals don’t surprise me.”
Falvelina’s connections benefited from the filly’s QTIS registration by claiming $53,000, which includes a $21,000 QTIS bonus in only her second win from six starts.
The judges determined the win to be by a dominant two and a half lengths with Larry Cassidy onboard.
“I thought she raced very well,” Gollan said. “She got back on top of the ground on a dry track and we were pretty confident.
“It was a strong field, no doubt about that. It wasn’t a very big field, but there was a bit of depth there.
“On that win, we’d like to think she can win some more down there.
“We’ll head down to Brisbane for some more QTIS races. That’s all we’re chasing at the moment.
“It’s ideal, you can run in Brisbane every week for $53,000 to the winner…where else would you be.”
Cariad, ridden by apprentice Justin Wood for Steele Ryan, bolted home strongly out wide to steal a late second placing after trailing the field for the trip.

More More More denies Done All Done the chance to collect a $74,000 payday
|
The three-year-old filly was enjoying only her second outing and would have Ryan pleased with her early progress. The $6000 QTIS bonus thrown in with the second place cheque would obviously help the trainer’s mood also.
To complete the clean-sweep for QTIS registered horses, Flinders City (Joe Bowditch) finished third a further one and a quarter lengths behind and collected $8000, which included $3000 in added stakes.
Falvelina and pacesetter Another Talent (Michael Hellyer) played a trump card, whether by luck or good fortune, as they forced the heavily backed Fab Fevola (Luke Rolls) to run three wide for the journey.
Fab Fevola’s customary domination from the front was thwarted early in the straight and looked to show a weakness in the usually positive three-year-old gelding.
In further QTIS news, the full race bonus went begging for Done All Done’s connections as the second placegetter in the Australia Day @ Races QTIS 600 2YO C&G Handicap failed by three quarters of a length.
The QTIS and QTIS 600 registered colt, ridden by Ron Goltz for trainer Ron Macrae, at the juicy odds of 51/1 would have qualified for the full first place purse of $74,000 in only his second start at Eagle Farm on January 25.
Done All Done was still the beneficiary of $22,000, which includes $12,000 in QTIS and QTIS 600 added stakes.
However, nothing could be taken away from race favourite More More More as Glen Colless, for trainer Alan Bailey, produced a spirited run in the straight to come from near last at the turn and scythe his way through the hopefuls.
Better Option finished third, a nose behind Done All Done for trainer Eric Hayes and jockey Joe Bowditch to collect a $3000 race bonus due to his owners’ sole QTIS registration.
