Bareena right on target
Trainer Bryan Guy notched up his second win for the day when Bareena stormed home to claim the Paspaley Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap 1300m at the Gold Coast on March 24.
Right on target, jockey Jim Byrne reeled in the field to hit the front a few hundred metres from the winning post sending Bareena (M4 Filante-Marilla) to score a two length victory.
Jumaana (Glen Colless) finished in second place with Satsang (Corey Brown) a further long neck in third place.
The win followed a last start second in the Listed Tattersall’s Classic at Eagle Farm where she only finished long neck behind winner Single Rose.
“She just got beaten in town the other day…she is absolutely flying,” Guy said.
“She has matured really nicely, normally the family fall away but she has just got better and stronger.”
Guy was confident Bareena would finish the race off nicely if Byrne was able to get to the outside.
“He got out nice Jimmy, he went forward and got a nice run into the race. I said whatever you do Jim come to the outside and she’ll find the line and that’s exactly what she did.”
Bareena picked up $114,000 for the win and now boasts $180,000 in prizemoney from 16 career starts.
