Too Easy
Trainer Barry Baldwin saw success late in the day when The Big Easy trumped the Waterford Crystal Magic Millions Class 6 Plate 1200m.
“We only had the one runner but he’s done us proud. I don’t think he’s an over-great horse but he’s really proved himself up to the class today,” said Baldwin.
The Big Easy won a length ahead of Scenic Rule (Daniel Griffin) with Hear Ye (Donald Barron) placing third by a short head.
Jockey Shane Scriven’s only win of the day also came aboard The Big Easy (G5 Dane Supreme-Not Set). “(I’ve had) No luck at all. This was the last one so we had to make every post a winner,” said Scriven.
Baldwin worked with the gelding’s form to get it right. “He’s always been honest, and he races best fresh so after he ran a bad race at Doomben at his last start and his third run in we backed him up pretty quickly.
“I had to back off and freshen him up for this race. It’s nice to win a race on a day like today; he’s done us well. I don’t know if he’s over endowed with ability but he’s honest,” he said.
Scriven agreed, “He won first up, second up run was good, third run wasn’t so good. You’ve got to take your hat off to Barry Baldwin, he’s freshened him up. That’s obviously the key to the horse.”
“The race was run nice, down the outside, got the money.”
