Golden finish
It is not often you don’t see the dominant Glen Colless and Alan Bailey duo in the winner’s circle and it almost slipped by on Magic Millions raceday until Amex Gold made amends.
“We nearly left our run too late,” Bailey joked.
But Amex Gold (C3 Success Express USA-Spriggy) made sure the win was in the bag finishing four lengths ahead of Regal Castanea (Scott Galloway) with Arenaceous (Kelvin Wharton) a further short neck in third place.
“He’s always been a good horse it has just taken a while to get his head right and now he’s come good and put it together he is quite a smart horse.”
Bailey ran the horse 10 days early in readiness for the Magic Millions run at the Gold Coast; a track that he has won all of his five career wins. He went into the race with two back to back wins.
Colless was also pleased to be in the spotlight. “It took 10 races but we finally got there.
“He’s a really nice horse but drew an awkward gate. He got over them and had a good rest and then decided to sprint in the finish.”
