Doin’ them Proud
Clare Lindop weaved her magic with Augusta Proud in the feature $1.5Million Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions 2YO Classic 1200m at the Gold Coast on Easter Monday.
The winning ride saw Lindop make for the rail in the straight when a run through the centre closed but Augusta Proud slipped into gear and took her record to six straight wins.
Trainer Leon Macdonald was deservingly confident with his filly whose connections picked up $1Million for the win. She held off $4.60 race-favourite She’s Meaner (Nash Rawiller) by a head with High Roll’n Woman (Glen Colless) finishing two and a quarter of the lengths in third place.
“It was sensational today, she’s a wonderful little filly and we were always confident she would run very well. I thought the form of the race with three or four unbeaten horses in it, it was always going to be hard but she stuck to her guns and that’s what she had to do,” Macdonald said.
“I was never worried except when she got into the straight she went for a run between them and got checked out of it and had to go back to the fence and that worried me just a bit.
“She is very special she is a wonderful filly.”
The South-Australian jockey agreed, “She is an unbelievable horse,” Lindop said.
“The pace of the race is so different here than what it is back at home I wasn’t surprised that they crossed me early. I was so happy with the way she travelled with cover I thought she might have over-raced but she didn’t.
“I was forced on the fence which apparently hasn’t been the best going all day which is why I tried to go out but I had to switch back to the inside and gee she railed that beautifully.”
Augusta Proud has won over $1.45Millions in prizemoney from just six starts.
