Borsha’s Mark returned to the track on Monday, January 28 at City Pacific Doomben and gained success for trainer Les Kelly.
“He had longer out than we wanted because of the EI but it’s probably worked out as a blessing in disguise anyhow because he’s come back so much bigger and stronger,” said Kelly.
It was the gelding’s first race back since winning at the Gold Coast in early July by three and a half lengths.
The $3 race favourite had a lovely strong run after jumping from barrier two. Ridden by Daniel Griffin, they sat in third place just off the speed. On the straight, they caught the run on the inside and sprinted to the front with 100m to go claiming victory two and a quarter lengths ahead of Release Me (Jim Byrne). Lady Showheart (Stathi Katsidis) was behind by a nose for third.
Kelly outlined they had planned to run Borsha’s Mark (G3 Falvelon-Elite Warrior) off the speed and if he couldn’t lead to just sit back off them. “He just sat off the speed and finished all over the top of them when he got a run on the fence,” said Kelly.
“He was very impressive,” said Kelly of the gelding who has currently earned $66,250 in prizemoney from his four starts including $26,600 in QTIS bonuses.
