Scott Galloway and Dusty Moon return to scale winning the first race of the day

Dusty Moon shook off his Maiden status with a fierce win in the Ownit Homes QTIS 2YO Handicap 1350m at City Pacific Doomben on Saturday, July 26.
Toowoomba trainer Gary Bein had nothing but confidence in the colt’s chances. “I expected him to win on his previous run here in Toowoomba,” he said.
“I just said to young Scotty, jump him out, get him well positioned and I said he should run home well.”
And that he did. Jockey Scott Galloway jumped him from barrier two and they settled mid-field. They sat on the rails behind the leaders but when he got a chance Galloway steered Dusty Moon (C2 Moon Rocket JPN-Zaozip) out. In the last 100m they stormed home and got the win a half neck in front of Hearty Laughter (Jim Byrne).
The $3.20 race favourite Bennike (Brad Pengelly) was also in the bolt to the line but finished third by a short neck.
Bein said the horse seemed to handle the heavy track. “I think his biggest problem was he seemed to be snookered in behind the leaders and it took a bit to get out and once Scotty got him out he just bounded.”
“I was a little bit worried about the heavy track and the 1350m because it was after he had a four week break, literally a second up after a bit of a break and I was a bit worried but he handled it very well.”
Galloway agreed, “He was behind the leader. Once I got him out, he responded well,” he said.
From five starts, Dusty Moon has also claimed two thirds and a second at Toowoomba two weeks prior.

He also had an unsuccessful start in the Group 2 Champagne Classic.
“He just showed a little bit of shin soreness out of and we just eased up on him and it did him the world of good. We bought him back. He was very unlucky in Toowoomba,” said Bein.
Bein is also a part-owner of Dusty Moon with his breeders Rod and Carolyn Lynch.
“I bought a three quarter share of him off Rod Lynch. Rod bred him out of a mare of his, Zaozip and he rang me and asked if I was interested in racing him and I said yes. He said would you like to buy a share in him and I said I’d love to.”
Dusty Moon has now earned connections $59,850 in prizemoney including $23,450 in QTIS bonuses.
“It was a great win. I think he’ll go on with it this horse.”
Bein is also the trainer and part-owner of the Black Type winning Miss Watagan.
“I’ve got Miss Watagan too. He seems to finish his races off where she seems to just go very hard and she struggles to finish off.”
“She’s still going to be a good mare, she’s out spelling at the present time.”
“She’ll come back into work on the first of September so we’ll possibly race her around about Christmas time.”
