Long Standing Track Records Fall At Two Venues

TRACK records that have stood for more than a decade were broken at Doomben and the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Sydney visitor, Flying Anabaa, won the Sky Channel Doomben Dash and bettered the previous record of 57.13sec for the 1010m trip set by Mister Omega in April 2002.

Flying Anabaa, trained at Randwick by former South African, David Payne, proved too strong for Tellem and Penola running 57.02. The win provided the middle leg of a successful treble for jockey Scott Seamer.

A winner at three of his nine starts, Flying Anabaa was joint leader with Masindor on the turn but raced away on straightening.

The three-year-old had been freshened since failing badly in the Hall Mark at Randwick in early April. He had won previously at Canterbury and Warwick Farm.

Meanwhile, the John Wallace-trained Mittani maintained his unbeaten run this campaign at the Gold Coast bettering the 1000m track record in the L & M Resort News Class 3.

Mittani became the first horse to break 56 seconds for the journey. The previous best of 56.28 had stood to Stuck For Words since August 1993.

Ridden by Coffs Harbour apprentice Brett Poulus, Mittani ran 55.67sec and won by two and a half lengths from Resort To Rory. It was his third Gold Coast win since resuming on April 17.

The Gold Coast track has been on fire in recent weeks. Records were run in seven of the eight races on Prime Minister’s Cup day, including a track best by This Manshood in the Hollindale Stakes.
